Thanksgiving is about a great meal with family and even friends. There’s also parades and football not to mention the start of the holiday shopping season. Beyond all those fun things, there are also some great activities here in Denver that are for a great cause and can involve the entire family.
One Thanksgiving event we would like to highlight this year is the Run Your Yams Off at the 41st Annual Mile High United Way Turkey Trot. The event is scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, which is Thursday, November 27th. It will be held in Washington Park.
Participants are welcome to run or walk the four-mile event. There is also a separate fun run that you can do with the kids that is only one-quarter mile long. In the past, up to 10,000 people have participated and this year already promises to bring out that many people and even more!
There will be a start village that is full of fun activities as well as features coffee for that early morning start. At the end of the course, there is also a finish village with booths, free stuff, and a beer garden for those who might want to toast their race with a drink or two.
Besides all the fun to be had, there is also a great cause attached to participating in this race. The Mile High United Way will donate proceeds from the registration and sales from items available at the race to programs geared toward improving childhood literacy, increasing high school graduation rates, and helping bring economic independence to more people in the local community in and around the Denver area.
If you don’t plan on running or walking, you can opt to volunteer at the race. Or, if you are a business, you can also choose to sponsor the event.
On-site registration for those that have not registered online starts at 8am on Thanksgiving Day and the race starts at 10am. The Family Fun Run begins at 11am.
