Besides enjoying a delicious turkey dinner with friends and family, catching up on football, and thinking about all those fun holiday shopping days coming up, there are other things to do in Denver on Thanksgiving Day that you may want to get up off the couch and participate in. Check out these great Thanksgiving events in Denver:
Run Your Yams Off at the 43rd Annual Mile High United Way Turkey Trot
This annual event is one of Denver’s favorite Thanksgiving traditions. Approximately 20,000 people come out to Washington Park for the four-mile run or walk. It’s also a community celebration with a Start Village and Finish Village that includes vendors with merchandise, food, and drinks as well as a beer garden hosted by Great Divide Brewing Company.
The event fee includes a T-shirt, bib with time tag, and events. The fee goes toward the United Way and provides a way to do something good for the community while enjoying the spirit of the holidays. Adults, youth, and seniors are welcome to participate. There’s also a ¼ mile family fun run included in the day’s events. Registration is available ahead of time on the Denver United Way Facebook page or at the event.
Downtown Denver Grand illumination
On the day after Thanksgiving, the Downtown Denver Grand Illumination event will involve lighting up Downtown Denver with hundreds of lights as well as the tree lighting in Lower Downtown.
Blossoms of Light
The Denver Botanic Gardens hosts the Blossoms of Light display that includes numerous lights throughout the gardens, mistletoe, warm drinks and tasty treats. The event kicks off the day after Thanksgiving and runs through January 1st.
Southwest Rink at Skyline Park
Skyline Park offers free ice skating with skate rentals as low as $2. There is regularly scheduled entertainment like DJs on Friday nights, Saturday night concerns, Sunday afternoon family entertainment and more. It opened on November 22nd and is open through February 14, 2017.
